E. Garrison Benton, Jr. M.D.
E. Garrison Benton, Jr. M.D.Dr. Benton is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement. He is fellowship-trained in minimally invasive direct anterior total hip replacement and robotic-assisted total and partial knee replacements.
Dr. Benton introduced anterior approach hip replacement to Waco in 2013 and played a key role in establishing robotic knee replacement programs at Seton Hospital in Austin, St. David’s Surgical Hospital in Round Rock, and Baylor Scott and White - Hillcrest Hospital in Waco.
He is respected by his colleagues for surgical precision and thoughtful approach to patient care. Dr. Benton uses muscle-sparing technique along with modern pain management protocols to minimize discomfort and help patients recover more quickly. He offers same-day discharge for hip and knee replacements, enabling many patients to recover in the comfort of their own home. He also enjoys caring for patients with complex hip and knee problems, including prior trauma.
"My favorite part of this work is seeing a patient’s mobility restored. To be invited into their journey is humbling — and to participate in their success is deeply rewarding."
Recognized by his peers for consistent surgical excellence and strong patient outcomes, Dr. Benton has been named a Texas Monthly Super Doctor every year from 2021 through 2025. He previously received the Texas Monthly Rising Stars distinction from 2018 to 2020.
A native of Abilene, Texas, Dr. Benton earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Baylor University and worked as an engineer at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics before pursuing medicine. He received his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Scott & White, and finished a prestigious fellowship in Adult Reconstruction (Hip and Knee) at Cleveland Clinic Florida.
Dr. Benton and his family enjoy all things outdoors — backcountry skiing, hiking, climbing, and fly-fishing.
