Corbett H. Boone, M.D.
Dr. Boone, a Primary Care Sports Medicine Specialist, joined Southwest Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics in August of 2009 after completing a Fellowship in Sports Medicine in Tyler, Texas (Trinity Mother Frances/University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler Fellowship program.) A native of Stephenville, Texas, he received his undergraduate degree from Hardin-Simmons University, where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. Dr. Boone was also a member of the three-time American Southwest Conference champion football team at Hardin-Simmons, serving as a team captain his senior year. He then moved on to complete his medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston before completing his residency in family medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler.
Dr. Boone is Board-Certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine.
While in high school, Dr. Boone played for now Baylor University football coach, Art Briles, at Stephenville High School and won back-to-back state championships in 1993 and 1994. Dr. Boone and his wife, Stephanie, have two children, and he enjoys hunting and would like to become good at golf.
Jon M. Ellis, M.D.
Originally from Bryan, Texas, Dr. Ellis specializes as an orthopaedic surgeon, board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. A graduate of Baylor University, Dr. Ellis received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1994, and then completed his orthopaedic residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. After completing a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Kentucky Sports Medicine Clinic in Lexington, Kentucky, Dr. Ellis moved to Waco in September 2000 to begin practicing medicine. In January 2003, Dr. Ellis opened Southwest Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics.
Dr. Ellis specializes in arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery and is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
While at Baylor University, Dr. Ellis played football under Coach Grant Teaff. He enjoys spending time with his wife Carole and his two children. Dr. Ellis also enjoys hunting, fishing, and outdoor sports.
David Haynes, M.D.
A native of Marshall, Texas, Dr. Haynes moved to Waco in 2005 after completing his sports medicine fellowship training at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and cum laude in 1994. He received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas and graduated with honors in 1999. Dr. Haynes completed his orthopaedic surgery residency training at the University of Tennessee/Campbell Clinic, which, in cooperation with the Campbell Foundation, authors the internationally recognized orthopaedic text, Campbell's Operative Orthopaedics.
Dr. Haynes is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
While in Cleveland, Dr. Haynes' sports medicine experience included team coverage for the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Cavaliers, John Carroll University and several area high schools. His interest in athletic injuries of the knee and shoulder has led to participation in multiple sports medicine presentations and publications.
Dr. Haynes is married to Dr. Katherine Haynes, who practices gynecology in Waco and they have three children. He enjoys golf, hunting, water sports, and snow skiing.
Christopher Miars, D.O.
Dr. Miars is originally from Grapevine, TX and joined us in January of 2007. Upon completing his undergraduate career in Human Nutrition at Texas A&M University, Dr. Miars graduated from the University of North Texas Health Science Center, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1998 with his Doctor of Osteopathy. In 2001, he completed his family practice residency at Michigan State University, and then received his Sports Medicine Fellowship in 2002.
Dr. Miars is board-certified in Sports Medicine and Family Practice by the American Board of Family Practice.
Before moving to Waco, Dr. Miars worked as a team physician for Texas A&M University, Michigan State University, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Lansing Lugnuts (Chicago Cubs' "A" team), Bryan High School, Belton High School, and East Lansing High School.
He and his wife Meredith have three children. They are active members of their church, and volunteer with the college ministry. As a competitive triathlete, his personal experience makes him a perfect fit for all athletes.
